Rare Art Festival 2, May 18, 2019,

DADA, a blockchain-based digital art marketplace and social network, is organizing the Rare Art Show which will be featured during the Rare Art Festival 2 (Rare AF 2) on Saturday, May 18, at Bushwick Generator.

The art show was curated by a panel of experts that includes digital art curator Georg Bak; Jason Bailey, aka Artnome; Joe Looney, the father of the rare art movement and the creator of the Rare Pepe Wallet; Elena Zavelev of New Art Academy; and CADAF.

The panel selected over 50 artworks from 30 artists from among over 100 submissions from independent artists and platforms worldwide. These artworks and platforms will be streamed on two Meural digital canvases throughout the day, and the artworks exhibited will be available for purchase on their host platforms. Meural, a startup creating products combining art, technology and design, is a co-sponsor of the art show.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Judy Mam, co-founder of DADA and organizer of the show, said this year’s Rare AF will be even bigger and better than last year’s inaugural event.

“This space has bloomed since January of 2018 when the seminal Rare AF 1 took place. Convened by Joe Looney via tweet and organized by Rare Art Labs, it was a community-spawning gathering with only a handful of platforms that were already creating tokenized art on the blockchain,” said Mam.

“This time, we are featuring over 15 platforms: pioneers, newly minted and established players, plus a great curated selection of rare art by independent artists. DADA is thrilled to bring attention to the artists and technologists who believe in tokenized art as disruptive yet essential to the future of art.”

DADA is a social network that allows people “to talk to each other through drawings” and create spontaneous visual conversations between people from all around the world. On DADA, each drawing is tokenized as a single non-fungible token (NFT) using the ERC-721 protocol on Ethereum. These unique digital assets can then be transferred, sold and bought on the platform.

The art show will take place during Rare AF 2, an event celebrating cryptoart occurring during New York City Blockchain Week.

Rare AF 2 will include talks and panel discussions with leading creative minds in the field of art and blockchain such as Beatriz Ramos from DADA; David Moore from KnownOrigin; Simon de la Rouviere from Artonymous; Benny Giang from Axiom Zen, the company that created the viral blockchain-based virtual game CryptoKitties; Matt Hall and John Watkinson of Cryptopunks; Fanny Lakoubay from Snark.Art, a digital laboratory for blockchain-based art; and many more.

Representatives from leading companies in the crypto-collectible spaces including OpenSea, a crypto-collectible marketplace; Codex, a registry for art and valuable collectibles; and CryptoKaiju, a startup that manufactures and sells Ethereum-powered figures, co-founded by Oliver Carding, the founder and owner of Coinjournal.net, will also be present.

The event will feature a “create-a-thon” and a grand finale with a “Black Swan” rare art auction in which each work will be bid for with a different auction style. It will culminate with the Cirque Du Cipher afterparty, featuring live music and an open bar.
