The World’s Biggest Ethereum Hackathon is Hitting San Francisco Next Month

ETHGlobal is set to host, what is expected to be, its biggest Ethereum hackathon in the Golden Gate Bridge state next month.

Over the past year ETHGlobal has hosted a number of hackathons, bringing together developers and entrepreneurs that are working at building the Web3 world. Previous events have taken place in Denver, Colorado; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Bangalore, India; and Berlin, Germany.

The next hackthon will be the ETHSanFrancisco event from the 5-7 October at the Palace of Fine Arts. According to the website, next month’s hackathon is the world’s largest “where developers of all backgrounds will work on projects using Ethereum that can have an impact on the world.”

According to an announcement, there will be 1,000 developers coming from over 20 countries including Argentina, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Singapore, Spain, South Korea, and the U.S.

During the three-day event attendees will work together to build new decentralised applications, open finance protocols, developer tooling, and other technologies built on Ethereum.

Previous ETHGlobal hackathons have seen the launch of notable projects. In the city of Waterloo in Southern Ontario, Canada, CryptoKitties, the viral Ethereum-based virtual game, was the first Ethereum application to break into the mainstream. In Buenos Aires it was the launch of Crypto Against Humanity, a user generated game of Cards Against Humanity adapted as a blockchain game. At last month’s ETHBerlin event, the Görli testnet was created. This is the first proof of authority testnet that can work across any client implementation.

With the success of previous events, the upcoming hackathon in San Francisco will see the Ethereum community gathering to build decentralised alternatives to the centralised companies that populate Silicon Valley. This will be an opportunity for developers to build something that excites them, allowing them to focus on the technology as they create a new decentralised future.

On Sunday, hackers will present their projects to a strong panel of experts including Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum and chief scientist at the Ethereum Foundation, Linda Xie, co-founder and managing director of Scalar Capital, an investment management company specialising in crypto assets, Bjorn Wagner, co-founder of Parity, a blockchain infrastructure company, and Anna Rose, co-founder of Zero Knowledge, a podcast that delves deep into the technology that is powering the emerging Web3 ecosystem.

Ten teams will be selected by the judges to present their projects to the audience of the event and media at 1:30 p.m.

During the three-day event, talks, presentations, and winner announcements will be livestreamed to reach a global audience.
